Nevada County Airport
Grass Valley, CA
2010 – 2013
In support of planned improvements at the Nevada County Airport, Blackburn provided geotechnical design recommendations for installation of 4,700 lineal feet of 24-inch diameter storm drain pipe and for full depth recycling to rehabilitate the existing runway. During construction, Blackburn provided inspection and materials testing for the installation of new storm drain, erosion controls systems, two energy dissipater systems, soil stabilization, mass grading, full depth recycling, and storm drain installation. Blackburn reviewed and approved pay quantities/requests, change orders, and assisted public relations with the Airport and CALFIRE.
Blackburn helped reduce project budget by providing field representatives cross-trained in both materials testing and inspection. Because construction occurred during an active fire season, Blackburn coordinated closely with CALFIRE and the contractor’s staff to sequence work and reduce interruption of CALFIRE access to runways and taxiways.
